Would have been great to see a few of the lads, could have made a proper day of it, as it turns out I had family over and they're not really car nuts so it seemed a bit pointless paying to go into the paddock.
It was an OSI, I deliberately with held the front view ;-)

A friend and I were driving back from the Costa Blanca in a Montego five years ago, and we visited Angouleme as it is twinned with our home town. Imagine our surprise to see scenes like in the photos above - and even greater surprise to hear lots of comments like "Cor blimey, a Montego!" as we struggled through the traffic 
. The newest competing car we saw around the place was an S-reg Triumph 2500, coming back in from the Cognac run.
We only found out once we got home we'd passed through the Rallye des Remparts

.Nah, sorry, I think the red one is indeed a Berkeley - the very rare 4-wheel version with the 328cc Excelsior two-stroke twin I reckon but it might even have the frightening 736cc Royal Enfield motor.
Angouleme is a brilliant event. I live an hour and a half up the road and go when I can - not this year, sadly, as commitments intervened.
The Saturday rally is pretty expensive now though for a one-day drive around the countryside and a lunch.
Here's a pic I took a few years ago - this R-type Continental belonged to late politician, author, diarist and old car nut the Rt Hon Alan Clark. I guess it's still in his family - I looked around the crowd outside the bars but couldn't see anyone who looked like him.
ps: those are the nicest Bristols I've seen in a long time...

Nice to see all those Simca 1000 Rallyes - I couldn't tell you when I last saw one in the UK. Pity about the replicas - I can live with the Aston DB4 Zagato, but that looked like an Excalibur and I'm pretty sure the Auburn wasn't kosher.
