No idea about MOT but yes it can easily be repaired for less than £100. Depending on how bad it is, it will probably have to be stripped, heated up and then reshaped before being painted again. I had a much worse wheel repaired last year for £80-90.

My car got through its MOT with two advisories for "distorted bead rim on inner side" on two separate wheels. Now I know yours is on the outer side, but the distortion of the rim on mine is visible and it didn't fail. However yours looks a bit worse than my ones do.

That can be easily repaired for around £60-£80 I guess. I had similar damage.

I'm not sure I'd trust a repaired wheel - considering they can be had on eBay for <£100, I'd do that tbh.

Sorry for a bit of a hijack here, but I have a similar question.

Are buckled wheels able to be repaired via similar methods? And most wheel repairers should be able to handle this?

I have a wheel on our Mini, which the tyre fitters have tried to dial out a wobble with weights. But their conclusion is that it is buckled and ideally needs to be replaced. I prefer the idea of a repair and refurb if its possible.

What and not know the history of it? Could have been repaired several times and you'd never know.

I'd just get a straight one off ebay - cant tell what size or model of ford it is, but I'd not be comfortable with a wheel that had been buckled being straightened out.

For a buckled wheel to fail an MOT it would have to affect the way the tyre is seated on the rim - hard to tell from that photo is the tyre/wheel contact has been compromised. Either way, it is down to the interpretation of the tester, and his subjective view. At the very least, it's an advisory - but if he views it as dangerous, he can fail it.

Either way, you should get it repaired, and as above, it should cost no more than £80-90 ish.

I'd imagine to cause that damage it was quite a whack. Might be worth getting your steering arm, tracking etc checked too. Good luck with the repair on the rim

Battered it round with a sledge hammer

Then stick it on e-bay

Heat an aluminium wheel to straighten it!! NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. You totally ruin the properties of the aluminium. Becomes annealed, and useless as a wheel. Once a wheel is bent, scrap it. The elongation of the material, probably LM25, is poor, and 'bending' it back will create minute fractures. I believe it's already been banned in some countries. And it'll probably wobble as well.

Find a decent size pothole that you could have driven though photograph the hole and the damage and claim of the local authority;)
