Hi
I am restoring a MK1 Golf GTi. I am in the process of removing all of the black oily stone chip/underseal from the floor and all arches. What is left now is the original hard underseal and/or the original coat of paint. It is all lovely and clean and dry but I want to paint it to make it look new again.

What would be the best paint to use?
Would a simple Hammerite smooth be ok?

Many thanks

Stone Chip that can be painted over, then basecoat and lacquer in the colour of your choice with some plasticiser in the lacquer to make it more resilient. If you have the facilities. Otherwise some form of one stage product like one of these

Thanks.
Had the floor been bare I would agree with the above. I have removed all of the black oily mess that someone has applied 'over' the original floor coating and underseal but the original stuff is still there and in good condition.

As can be seen here, in this picture a 1/4 of the floor has been done. You can though see in both pictures that the original paint/underseal is in good condition and will continue to offer protection from the elements. I am just looking to cover it in something to improve the apperance:

Would stone chip be the best thing to spray over the top or white smooth hammerite? Or perhaps what has been suggested so far?

Cheers

Anyone??
I think some of the replies are targeted more towards if I had removed all of the original underseal.

All I have removed is the black oily bitumen that has been applied in recent years.

I simply now just need to make it look good, the original protection is still there.

Cheers

Stonechip should be fine then I used to find the one from wayside adhesives was good for the money.

Anti-Stonechip.

Just make sure the surface is sound and clean (clean with paint thinners).
