So just a review on a track then rather than the conditions most people would use one most of the time - ie roads? Personally I didn't find it much use - just somebody driving a fabulous car on a circuit and making the back end step out on corners. And the obligatory mention of Porsche and even the Nissan GTR too - is a Nissan really a rival to the AMV12R? Surely they are intended for different markets?
Hmm… same V12VR with the red carbon trimmings that we saw in pictures last month, and same miserable, damp, rainy UK weather.
All I can say is "meh".

These reviews have me convinced that the Mac may be my next supercar and not the Vanq II.

My review is coming this week, but I was left underwhelmed by the MP4-12C. Lacked some excitement and drama. And certainly lacked noise.
I never thought I'd say it, but the 458 would get my money if it was a mid engined supercar I was after.
Saying that, the Mac is actually a good rival for the AM310 Vanquish, as a GT it's very good - incredible ride, lovely cabin and subtle looks. For me it just falls down as a supercar.

It will be nothing like the F1. It will depreciate a lot due to high volumes (I think they say something like upto 4k per year). I hope they do depreciate because they're my favourite supercar by miles, I'd love one in a few years, especially in spider form 
I saw my first MP4-12C on Sunday at Cars in the Park. It was totally underwhelming and a real dissapointment - I think the Audi R8 V10 parked a few cars away was actually more impressive and that is saying something.

That's what I like about the MP4-12C, can be quite discreet. It's just a nice, fairly simple design. Nice to see function over form for a change. I'm not a fan of the Aventador's styling, it looks like they tried to get angles and creases on every surface, like it's trying too hard. I loved the original Murcielago design but that went the same way over its lifetime.
Same here. I don't like the Aventador (or the Murci). When I saw the MP4-12C in a dealership in the Midlands, I thought it was just fantastic. Hope they come down to my price range in the not too distant future. Or, rather I hope my income increases to the point where I could buy one. 
Not sure where I'd get it serviced in France though. 
It's bad enough with the Aston.

The only decent Lambo was the Muira..now thats stunning.
The MP4 looks like a Noble to me, no charisma whatsoever.
The review in the print & iPad editions focus on driving on real roads in great weather and is therefore far more meaningful. He takes it to the track (when it rains) late on in the review so it's only the video review which suffers the problems highlighted above
Although I don't see them as obvious rivals and the real world cost to change is a lot more, I did have 458 & 12C spider on my radar when I put my order in for V12VR. But they aren't cars that tug at my heartstrings the way the Aston does, which in reality, despite my ramblings above, is surely what persuades a lot of us to part with this kind of cash on this kind of car ? If I exclude classics, my perfect (very much a dream !) garage, would have cars like the Zonda, V12VR, LFA and 911 GT3 RS in it, all oozing with charisma, none of which are fastest in class, all of which would be keepers.
This hypothetical dream garage may well also have cars in it like the 12C and 458, but they would be upgraded every few yrs to the latest/fastest/most advanced sports car of their day - that's the difference !

Coudlnt agree more. I drove both of these on track recently and the 458 was a much more exciting experience. The Mclaren reminded me of driving an Evora, fantastic fun but just not quite there in terms of the overall package. I'm far from a great driver but the 458 was much easier to drive fast. The Mclaren was really twitchy.
Actually quite a nice review - he's nailed Aston ownership there quite well; it isn't about having dynamically perfect cars, it's about haveing an Aston and the good feelings that brings.
If you want cutting edge speed for your money, look at Nissan or McLaren. If you want plenty of pace, class, looks and noise and 'good enough' dynamic ability for the majority of humanity, then an Aston might just fit the bill
