Life dictates that i am no longer in the market for the newer stuff im used to and am running an X5 as a day to day wagon. However i have a 911 shaped hole in my life so am considering something older for weekend fun/garage orniment. What do people recomend? i dont want a 996 as i bought these when they were new and so think they'd just feel old rather than special.
I've been looking at early 80's stuff but also the odd 964, which are the models to go for in this price range? what's the bits to look out for and the things to avoid?

Thanks in advance

I went for the 911 3.2 Carrera. Gorgeous car but needs alot of work to keep it that way (considerably more than my Lotus and TVR).

My gearbox is playing up so thats a major thing to look out for as its expensive, electrics also need to be wary of- Mine has had a full rebuild a few years back including being completely rewired but still has the odd electrical issue.

Engine is pretty indestructable as long as looked after. 10K - walk away, 15k will probably only get you a fair condition, for one like mine which is exceptional with FSH and folders full of receipts I would expect 20k (with the repaired gearbox obviously -15k as is)

I would get the best you can as prices are only going one way and thats up.

Early or late, it seems to me at least that 993s go off condition & history rather than age. Like most other 911s I guess.
It would have to be a tip and high mileage and /or CAT D to be in that price bracket.

Generally, yes, but the later varioram probably commands a couple of grand premium.

However, in my view, condition is now far more important.
