Hi guys,
Just picked up a pretty tidy e36 m3 evo convertible for pennies and really love it. I always wanted either a m3 or a skyline as a kid and after having a couple of skylines i thought i would try the m3.
its a estroil blue with champagne leather and its a manual.
went through the paper work and its got full service history and its all bmw or indy.
it has 137k on the clock so should i be worried?
in the last 2 year or12k its had a new rad, clutch vanos seals, hood re set, most the bushes and pretty much most the common things on these.

only this i have found is the dog ears are coming away and a rust spot the size of a 2p on the rear arch and a slight blow on the manifold.
on the way home from getting it though i noticed it only made 290bhp with 236ftlb which seams pretty low and it does has a bit of a flat spot and a slight misfire/hesitancy some times but i put that down to the pipercross viper kit messing up the maf?

still not bad for 2k!

2 grand?! Who'd have thought they'd ever drop so low ... Lot of car for your money.

Plugs, coils, MAF, injectors, valve timing, Vanos, air leaks, various sensors etc - all degrade over time. Lots of little things not working at 100% can easily cost you 5-10bhp.

Pitbull turbo, probably the best name I've seen for a while smile

Has it had the valve clearances set? That and check the MAF first of all, but 290bhp isn't an uncommon dyno result for an Evo. The flat spot is the bit to focus on, not the headline figure.

First things to check are that the accelerator cable is properly adjusted and that there are no airleaks on the induction side.

sorry for the late reply been hanging out on m3cutters.
well i found all the inlet manifold and pipercross viper kit was hanging off with air leaks everywhere! fixed that up but it has a slight miss fire still when it gets hot so i imagine a coil pack breaking down under heat as i got this all the time with my skylines.
i need to get the valve clearances sorted but i think il try to do that myself! i also have the manifold flexi blowing so i imagine that will loose me some power.
next thing i need to do is sort out the tired suspension as most is original stuff and 140k on it so needs a refresh and to sort the hood as the dof ears have come away and the boot catches on the tanuo cover a bit.

Sounds about right for an old S50b32 motor, tbh...They aren't often found producing factory figures.

Pretty rare for that engine to push 321BHP new so no surprise. Still one of the greatest engines ever made. Such linear torque.
Enjoy!

Nice choice Pitbull (thought I recognised the name from over on the Fiat Coupe Club forum) - sounds like a bargain to me. Lovely engines.

Hi Neal, indeed I am on the coupe owners club and was very tempted to get another coupe or a skyline again but to be honest I just couldn't resist the hood down motoring and have hankered after a M powered car for some time! I can see the M3 being just as much of a money pit as my coupe was but got to still love them.
