Hi - Looking for a decent restaurant near Basingstoke for this Wednesday evening - not looking for michelin stars, but good quality food where we can actually have a fairly quiet evening (rarely without the kids!)

Haven't been to the Sun in Dummer since its been taken over so not sure if thats as good as it used to be - any suggestions welcome - don't want to be miles away but wondering if there are any little gems of pubs in the surrounding villages perhaps?

Not fussed on any particular style, so general I guess!

Thanks

Wellington Arms, Baughurst - close thread (if you can get a table!)

Not cheap, but quality is very high - more of a restaurant than a pub.

Got a table for tomorrow night - will report back.

Yeah it's not to be confused with the Wellington Arms on the A33! My wife made that mistake once and took me to the A33 one having booked the other one! The A33 one is nice though.

Just got back from an excellent meal at the welly arms! Great recommendation! So thanks to you guys.

The starter was excellent, the ribeye sublime and the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world! Superb place, will be going back again very soon

Thanks! smile

Glad you enjoyed it - I only live about a mile away, but 2 young children means we don't visit often frown
