Nice dilemma - Gen2 GT3 or 991 2S
Discussion
I currently have a nice dilemma. Looking for another 911 for general use, everyday driving, bit of fun here and there (no track work as I have a race car for that).
Torn between a Gen2 GT3 and a nearly new 991 2S. I've had a Gen2 before (regretted selling it) but test drove a 991 today and it was a great everyday car, so chuckable. GT3 has the noise, handling and character, 991 has the better flexibility.
Come on, help me out!

The GT3 is my favourite 911. But having spent the weekend in a 991 C2S PDK with PSE and Sport Chrono plus, courtesy of the wonderful OPC MS, I can say you should go for the 991.
Why? It's a new chassis, handles incredibly well, is very very fast, and the spit and burble from the PSE at any speed is just awesome. Oh and you can pick up 6 month old examples with decent spec for low to mid 70s now, and I bet you can get a good discount too...

One day you will be bored of the 991.
That may never happen with the gt3.
Interesting dilemma. You have to. I slider though although 991 is a great new chassis etc it will be slightly over rated due to be being newest and latest model. Gt3 is all Porsche and how Porsche should be. Consider what you Would rather have a 996 gt3 or early 997? I think most of people on here would opt for gt3. It is a similar decision you face with the added dilemma of the 991 being so new. That may never happen with the gt3.
For me: gt3 any day.

I don't really get the 'if you don't track a GT3 it is a waste' mindset. It is a great fast road car and a better than average track car, but in no way is it track only.
Agree. The GT3's USP is its remarkable road manners. I would throw the 997 Turbo'S'in the mix, which is an awesome machine, better IMO than the 991, but not as special as a GT3.
If you don't need the rear seats I think a GT3 would be more fun and a better investment.
The gt3 is a lovely car, but if you are choosing out of either of these would a mk2 rs come in to budget?
You may think that is seriously hardcore, but I have run one for the last 2 yrs virtually everyday.
In blue and champagne it's a very good looking car too and the gearbox with shorter gear ratios is fantastic.
It may not be for you, but I'd have a go in all of them and make your own mind up.

Indeed a dilemma Mr DMC2 but then again, perhaps not.
Let me explain. I have recently returned from Germany where I had been working exclusively with the very nice little engineers from Porsche conducting back to back tests on both the 997 GT3 Mk2 and the all new 991C2S.
Perhaps some extracts from my personal diary may help..
'997GT3.8RS. Ring time 7.30
Initial understeer on pre turnin with more pronounced steady state mid scrub as the front tyres finally keyed to the Tarmac like a springer closing on a winged Partrige. Powering out of the corner, this baby hunkered down like a w
e on an MP's trumpet. Steady state oversteer easily controlled on the steering which writhed delicately in my chamos clad fingers as we thundered through the Fox hole at 150 laying black lines in the Tarmac and brown lines in the Calvins of little Woolfgang, the engineer who pleaded with His employers to join me as wing man. At the end of the ride we sat together and for a while no words were said. We both knew this lap was special. I remember a skylark overhead and the golden rays of the late Summer sun clinging to the Germanic hills one the horizon. Then, I spoke 'feed this baby a half a degree of rear camber and two minutes of tow in and she will be perfect. He turned to face me, a tear in his eye 'Journoman, you truly are a genius'
991C2S. Ring time 7.32
Think this baby in and she turns on the button, initially fully balanced with about 5 degrees of front scrub increasing as the power comes down. Steady state under steer for sure but she responds to steering and with a deft lift of the throttle she turns on the proverbial sixpence. This is no 64RS with it's bone crushing ride. No this bus is soft and supple yet she still has a sting like a fresh oyster with a hint of paprika. Less oversteer as the
PCM and the ASR and TRYT and PSMO systems worked in harmony as we thundered under the bridge at 190. As we ended the lap I had a few concerns. Something was niggling at my subconscious. For a while I couldn't pin point it. Like a trusty dog, Wolfgang looked perplexed and worried. He knew there was a problem. Then It came to me. I unbuckled my 6 point, rushed to the front of the car and opened the bonnet. There, in the boot were six little silver buillet like objects scattered as if sewn by the Green man himself. I turned to Wolfgang, and against the backdrop of the thunder clouds that gathered to the northIsaid 'look, it's the HP2's. They,ve fallen out of the steering box'

The GT3 is subtle, but effective. The RS is attention seeking and looks the part at track days. You may think that is seriously hardcore, but I have run one for the last 2 yrs virtually everyday.

RS - £15k more?

I have to agree. I've never liked the over styled nature of the Gen2 RS, maybe if the stickers were removed and the two tone paint co-ordinate with the car colour. Looks great sitting in the paddock though!RS - £15k more?

The gt3 is a more handsome car sure, I've never driven it but often told the rs is a better drive. Extra £15k, fook knows? And in blue:
