banging noise - any ideas please!

97 chim - just back from oxfordshire trouble free (apart from a hot start problem in a festival traffic queue - made me very popular). Now it won't start - when I turn the ignition a loud banging noise is coming from the engine while the key is turned. The windows also are really struggling to open or close as if my battery is running dry - could this be the problem?

Sounds as if you have a flat battery. Not normally a big deal, but in your case the battery is a bit of a pig to get to.
