Worn exhaust section

Just a quick post for a little bit of advice, I've a spare section of stainless exhaust kicking around I'm looking at getting sold but the braiding over the flexi section has come loose at one end:

I'm not that sure the actual purpose of this braiding given it isn't airtight, but is this wear a problem or is it a non-issue?

I have exactly the same problem with the downpipe & flexi section on my MGF Trophy. It doesn't look like it will last very long to be honest, I certainly wouldn't risk putting that on a car of mine, sorry.

I can't see your picture, but assuming it's a normal flexi then inside the braiding is a convoluted pipe which is air tight but can't take load in tension. The purpose of the flexi is to allow movement of the pipe and the braiding limits how far you can pull it.

You can buy those flexi sections by length & diameter from many places inc. ebay, normally about £10-20 quid and you weld them in.

To be fair though it doesn't look like it's leaking so it might last 10 minutes or 10 years!

Some unscrupulous M.o.T testers would fail broken braiding on the flexi section if it got any worse than that. Had it once on a Vectra.

Still worth trying to sell, just stick lots of pictures up, can't be more honest than that.
