Idiot of the Week Award - Petrol in Diesel

So there i was paying for the fuel for my car at Clacketts Lane Service Station...£86.85 please for the unleaded.....unleaded??? no diesel i said. Pump 18 he said...yes you put in unleaded...oh **** i thought. Immediate panic set in...the £ signs rolling in front of me. What had i done?? I'd only committed the biggest sin...petrol in a diesel....You put the wrong fuel in mate?? Yes..oh you need Flexi Fuel,,but they will charge you. So i call them. £168 for draining the tank and then refill the car. DOH!!!!! I have felt so stupid. Sitting in Clacketts Lane watching everyone having a snigger as the guy drained my tank. Although on the positive side..if i had driven off it would have cost me a dam site more than £168.
So..who else has done this???

I once got to £7 before realising the error of my ways back in the day when diesel was about 70 ish pence, its has instilled a certain amount of paranoia when filling up

I once went to an 'indian' owned petrol station and filled up the O/H old mini. On the drive home it stunk and drove terribly. When I got back I saw what i had done. proceeded to empty the tank and refill with unleaded - after a few tanks and a bit of smoking it was ok again.
I returned to the petrol station as I didnt think I could have been that stupid..... owner had not bothered buying new parts for pump and had reused an unleaded one. green handle and everything - had just written diesel on the side of the pump. I just pulled up and naturally assumed the green pump was unleaded- everyone knows diesel is a black handle - tried to make a complaint but he didnt speak any english. I check everytime now - just in case...... its alot easier now the diesel pumps are a different shape

Did they have the number for 'flexi-fuel' at the petrol station? (Must be a common occurrence).
Geoff, don't feel alone in doing this; it's very easily done.

Into the station, hoped off my bike, grabbed the closest pump and started putting fuel in. Finally actually looked at what I was doing and I was putting diesel in the Fireblade. You know you have that moment of doubt when you think "surely I haven't just done, what I appear to have just done..."
Walked into the shop, paid for the fuel, and then pushed it down the road to a (luckily) nearby dealer who drained it all out for me.
After that I always looked that little bit more closely at the pumps before I filled up!
Into the station, hoped off my bike, grabbed the closest pump and started putting fuel in. Finally actually looked at what I was doing and I was putting diesel in the Fireblade. You know you have that moment of doubt when you think "surely I haven't just done, what I appear to have just done..."

Friend of ours, for some unfathomable reason, lives in deepest rural France & used to run an old diesel engined Peugeot estate due to the lack of usable roads where they live.
One wet & windy afternoon last winter he filled up his tank - with petrol rather than diesel.....
Frenchman in the petrol station laughed quite a lot at the daft Englishman in a Gloucester rugby shirt swearing as he realised his mistake.
Local 'mechanic' said he would charge in excess of 500 euro's to drain the tank!!!!!!
Friend told him to naff off.
Aforementioned Peugeot is still in the garage forecourt slowly rotting away as he simply bought a 'new' old shed to drive around in.
Doesnt use that petrol station anymore!

Both have empty tanks so take the two of them to the petrol station and fill them both
Sadly i filled the V8 with diesel and the 300Tdi with petrol
