Hi Matt,
Where have you taken it to? I'd love to know more about your process as I have a couple of cars I'd eventually like to take back to Aus (Sydney).
Did you use the personal import scheeme and do you need to go through compliancing? Will you keep the british reg for the first 12 months?
Cheers,
Chris

My T350 (fingers crossed) will clear Australian customs tomorrow, I think there's at least 3 others here already.
Looking forward to driving it after 3 months apart!
Good luck! I've just imported one from the UK to NZ but having a bit of a hassle registering it as it doesn't meet the NZ frontal impact rules. I have to register it as a SIV (Special Interest Vehicle) as this bypasses that rule but they only allow 200 SIV's per year so I am 1 of 86 people in line for the 2013 SIV quota... January 2013 can't come soon enough for me.Looking forward to driving it after 3 months apart!
I was staying at the North Sydney Harbourview hotel 2 weekends ago when I went for a walk in the morning to clear the hangover after a big night out and stumbled across a 2003 blue T350T on display among many other nice classic/sports cars. After a little Internet searching later that day I found it for sale through these guys;

"Quite possibly the only complied and road registered example in Australia"
The price they're advertising is Sagaris money at todays conversion...

The speakers on the doors don't look like the cleanest install.http://www.classicthrottleshop.com/modernclassic19...
How's the process/costs of getting a TVR to NZ.
I'm off there for 3 weeks in November, hopefully I will love the place and kick my ass into moving out there, finally leaving britain and the AWFUL NHS.. Not bitter as you can tell!
Anyway, if I did move it would be cool to get the sagaris over!

The process is relatively easy and the cost quite low compared to most countries (especially Australia) if you're not using the personal export scheme.I'm off there for 3 weeks in November, hopefully I will love the place and kick my ass into moving out there, finally leaving britain and the AWFUL NHS.. I had to pay an extra 15% GST (similar to VAT) on the value of the car and shipping cost combined because I hadn't owned my T350 for more than 1 year. The only extra work mine required was to have a third brake light installed which Jim Gamsby did. If you're serious about a move out here and will be visiting the Auckland area in November, i'd recommend taking a trip down to Jim's workshop for a chat.
I can share some of my experiences with the shipping process...
Matt
Hi Paul,
When bringing any car in to NZ or OZ, to avoid paying any tax (GST) the authorities state you have to have owned it for 1 year or more, I’m assuming this is to stop the general public wanting to flood the market with sheds / high risk cars and to personally return a profit for themselves. They make it hard otherwise everyone would be doing it.
Regarding the servicing and who looks after my TVR, there are a lot of innovative and highly skilled people here in NZ and I’m sure it's even more so in OZ. We have fibreglass experts, highly qualified mechanical engineers, ex Ferrari paint shop personnel, engine builders etc.
I've built a good relationship with Jim Gamsby so far which started even before I owned a TVR. I first contacted him after becoming a member of the TVRCC and visited his workshop in East Tamaki (Auckland) I was pretty impressed with the wealth of his knowledge and the fact he has over 30 years mechanical TVR experience. This solidified my decision to pursue my dream of owning a TVR T350C and exporting one to NZ from the UK since there were only 2 in the country (mines the third) and they don't come up for sale very often.
PM me your email address and I’ll flick you a copy of the shipping invoice which has a breakdown of all the costs I incurred from the shipping company, it includes the shipping, insurance, import tax (GST) and loads of other costs which I wasn't aware of with this being my first export.
Cheers
Matt
