Resigning by email

Now I know this is best done in person but my scenario is as follows.
My direct line manager is away for the next few weeks with work.
My next boss up the tree is in a different office to me. I was hoping to see him tomorrow as I am in that area but due to the law of sod, he is in my home office tomorrow!
So, should I resign by email, explaining why I can't see them in person or delay the deed until I can have a face to face.
All thoughts appreciated.

I guess it really depends on the reason for resignation.
Makes no difference to the employer how you resign. Telling them face to face makes the situation no different to by email.
I take it by "resigning" you are planning to not work any notice? If so then in reality, again, it makes little difference, esspecially as they will likely never look to employ you again for not working your notice. No bridge there to burn as such so.
If you are working your notice then it will look bad on you if you just email. Atleast make the effort to call and talk to them. Far more likely to end amicably and you never know when you may cross paths again in the future.

Yet to have my meeting but have just had a 5% rise out of the blue!

What made it stranger is that I thought my pay was wrong, queried it with HR to be told that I should have had a letter in August confirming the rise. Of course, I have had no such letter...
