Iconic fleet to stand the test of time ?

Having been talking to my old neighbour again who amassed a lovely little fleet a few years ok it got me thinking what is the equivalent of our generation ?

He has

Aston db 4
Lamborghini Muira
Ferrari 246 dino
Landrover series

He paid very little (relatively) for these over the years and obviously now the are worth a small fortune and he certainly couldn't afford to buy them now, has turned out to be a lovely little pension. He bought all of them at the bottom of their depreciation curve.

I have been trying to work out what the equivalent would be now and the best I can come up with is

Ferrari 355
Lamborghini diablo 6.0vt
Defender 50th

Can't think of a 4 seater

Sadly not. Most of these will end as land fill.

4 seaters just never really manage to live on like their 2 seater cousins. I really can't think of one which will hold out. Bentley Continental R/T as a last of the old guard type thing?

Interesting the only other ones I thought of we're vanquish and old v8 vantage (circan1989)

The V8 vantage is already heading up, it's a gimme, it'll be worth money in the future

The Vanquish is the last Newport Pagnal Aston. It's in.

The Rapide is out. Too many built and it's made by Magna in Austria. I also found the interior less appealing than my 11 year old 7 series, a massive fk up given it's target market

I reckon in 50 years the Bentley Brooklands will be where the R-Type Fastbacks are now. People will see it as last of the old guard/iconic because cars are becoming less and less coachbuilt. Certain aspects that are detracting from new when stacked against peers end up becoming irrelevant a few decades on.

Series 1,2 and 3 Quattroporte's may be classics by now, but they're nowhere near as valuable as the 2 door coupe's of the same era.
