Why the change do you think? (0-62)

After reading about the Aventador DMC on the PH News page, and scrolling over the HP and performance figures I had this question pop in my head;
What do you suppose the reasoning behind changing the 0-60 time to 0-62 is?
I realize 60 mph is something of a dated measurement nowadays seeing how most cars, especially supercars can do 60 in a blink of an eye and probably most hyper cars can do so by the top of 1st gear, but adding 2mph seems trivial. Why not 0-75 or 0-80? Why such a minute increase of 2mph do you think?

I'm not the biggest fan of the 0-62 because some cars require a gear change at 59 and that can add a fair bit.
I do appreciate its probably the best system out there though.
But some cars were made with artificially long 2md gears that could hit 60mph, solely to show better performance times to similarly-powered rivals.I do appreciate its probably the best system out there though.

So....they would still need to change gears to hit 60 then?I do appreciate its probably the best system out there though.
Then you need to work out whether or not its better to have a short geared box for acceleration in gear or one that will need as few changes as possible to avoid fannying about with a knob.

I agree, showing several increments up to say 130mph would indeed be a much better measurement of a supercars ability seeing how after 60 is when the vehicles torque and engine capability truly begin to shine. For example a late model Esprit and late model Viper RT10 have nearly the same 0-60 time but after 60 the Viper begins to walk away from the Esprit due to its high torque/bhp capability. Similarly, most new entry level sports cars are putting out 0-60 times or damn close to it as late model exotica. For example, the Mitsu Evolution was hitting 60 in 4.7 seconds, the same as a Fezza F355 or Esprit S4S, but after 60 and up to top speed the F355 and Esprit would demolish it. With that said, measurements of 60 to 80, 80 to 100 etc would certainly grab my interest. Although someone mentioned Autocar does this, that is true, other magazines test in that way as well, not just to 60 or to 100. There is a magazine or two (can't remember which ones) that also measure top speed in each gear. This is how I came to find that a Viper GTS for example can do 64mph in first car. Granted achieving that speed in 1st gear is most likely done by redlining the crap out of it.

Autocar do that too.
