Boot Release-Not

Hi Griff 4.0 Pre-Cat Problem? anybody any idea what make the boot release solenoid is/where do I get it from! Is it difficult to fit or do I take to Offords for them to do the job. Managed to open the boot not
in the usaul manner--Good job I did that safe opening course!!

Maplin Electronics, I think it's a cheapy about £10-15ish.

Dead simple to replace, just 2 screws and the wire. You'll need to take the nipple thing off the old one and put it in the new one but that's it. I can't remember the name of the Italian manufacturers but I will be able to check tomorrow if you need more details.

Spal.

TMS sell them off the shelf, about £12 i think.

Boot, well it is on a Chim anyway.

It's in the boot on the Griff too about 6-8" from the latch. You'll have to peel some carpet back to get to it.

Just replaced all the switches on the dash, got the switches from RS. Prior to this I could press the boot release switch 4 or 5 times before it would open - now it works crisply every time.

Might want to consider a new switch, I too have an early pre-cat and they were looking tired so it much be an age thing.

I also noticed the new switch was slightly diffrent to the original and I think the mechanism has changed I can supply RS part no. if required.

On my switch you had to press it 3/4 times in the right place for it to work. Is it difficult getting the switch out of the dash.

RS is 01536 201201, Part No is 319-354. Online is rswww.com (just that no 'www' in front).

This is a momentary switch as appossed to a latching switch, the old one I took out had 2 spade connections and the new one has 4 spade connections - this is fine as the new one is a double pole and you just need to use a single pole set (2 spades).

Taking it out of the dash is a little complicated, the dash has to come out (not all the way just loose so that you can get to back of switch). Un-do the metal bracket that holds the switches and warning lights (2 nuts) and then I had to cut off the 4 plastic 'fins' that had latched the switch in place - these fins are like 'barbs' and hold it in place, push in new switch, connect etc ...job done.

Cheers, fitted new swich and solenoid followed your instructons. Only took 1 hour to fit both solenoid and switch!!
