Nice idea for a thread.....
The past 4-6 months have seen me buying my "Quaffing" wine from tesco.com. Tend to look at stuff with c50% discount (there are always a few). Have found the Cotes du Rhone to be particularly good value;
£24.66 for 6 bottles - Caves Saint-Pierre Côtes-du-Rhone
£22.44 for 6 bottles - Palais Saint Vigni Côtes du Rhône
£22.50 for 6 bottles - Calvet Minervois

The great problem with supermarket "offers" is working out if the "offer" is genuine.
Unfortunately, in my experience , the vast majority are phoney, in the context that the "offer" price, is in fact the proper price.
Waitrose were in the main, an exception to this, but they are going that way as well. Still, they do offer a superior selection to
other supers. (at the moment)
Fact is, google is your friend. If something is being "offered" google it, problem is, more often than not, the only hits are with that particular supermarket , oh hum .

I'd be happy drinking this at £13 as it really is very nice but at this price it is a serious bargain.
I'm going back tonight to get some more.

Indeed - I think this is a great idea for a thread, but I've often thought (given how many non-snobby wine appreciating types there are on here) that we could do with a 'good wine' thread (or even wiki - maybe with different price ranges?) to recommend a nice bottle, regardless of whether it 'appears' to be on offer or not!Unfortunately, in my experience , the vast majority are phoney, in the context that the "offer" price, is in fact the proper price.

I need to stock up with some different wines, the standard Chablis, Sancerre and Barolos are getting boring (i.e. too expensive to give to guests who are already pissed)

Well I tend to use morrisons as its next to work & there's always an offer on. I'm enjoying the above as we speak & it's very nice, I'm not a wine expert but it's very typically Italian.As a side note we went to our favourite bring your own restaurant last week & I took a bottle of white Rioja from aldi at £4.99, I liked it but others who tried it said it was too dry.

No Aldi near me , sadly. Having said that , Tesco's "Simply" Chotes Du Rhone is a little more and also darned good.It does vary , apparently, but the ones I have had, have been excellent for the price. Cannot go wrong really.
