Alfa 159 2.4 jtdm TI ?
Discussion
I'm selling my e46 m3 to make way for a 4 door diesel.
Anyway, I'm sick of seeing 3 series, a4s and the like and was looking for something a bit different.
Has anyone owned one of these or have any experience of driving one. I personally think they look fantastic but what are the engines/ interior quality like.

They look perfect in TI spec.
The interior is a lovely place to be and though the quality may not be Audi/BMW/MB standard it's not far off.
As suggested above, check out the owners forums and the Alfa forum on here so you can see the issues and how to solve them.
Definitely do it though, they're too pretty not to. Heart over head.

Mate's got one. Averages about 42mpg on a mixed commute. Lovely lovely interior. Reasonable handling, certainly better than an audi but not up to BMW standards. It's got to be one of the few diesel engines that actually sounds reasonable and potentially worth dropping a window in a tunnel to hear.
A colleague did have one, the servicing costs were very steep from memory (Alfa dealer) and he found the front tyres wore very quickly and were expensive to replace.
As said, get clued-up on their common issues (I seem to remember there being an issue with the gauges on the dashboard...) and they are a lovely steer with looks which defy any other saloon in the same price-bracket.

Here's mine:

I tried the 2.4, but preferred the 1.9, which mine is. 2.4 sounded better, but perhaps the one I drove was a dog? Who knows.
Either way, 1.9 is good. Just had it remapped by Angel, and feels quite a bit more grunty, and average MPG has gone up by 3mpg too.
Interior, in my opinion, is way ahead of same spec Audis etc - granted it may not be as well screwed together as time prevails, but they look so much better. Hopefully it holds together as the years pass.
Front tyre wear is a little heavy, but it is a heavy car.
No problems to date. I've had Alfas since 2003, and this one seems leagues ahead in terms of refinement and build quality, if lacking a bit of that 'soul' that the older ones had.

Nearly bought one..
One of the main reasons for not getting one was the price of tyres.!

I refuse to put rubbish tyres on a car so that leaves you with between £200-£250 a tyre. Which is fine on a Porsche but not on an every day car IMO. £900 for a set!
There are options of changing the size to a 225/40 etc but the loads aren't high enough on the different sizes.
Gorgeous looking car though, I'd probably still get one if it was equipped with that there V6.

I believe you get less problems with EGR valves and DPFs with the 1.9, but I could be wrong.
Isn't this the 1.9 engine used by Vauxhall, SAAB and Fiat? I was lead to believe it is and if that's right the EGR does get blocked easily. I had a 1.9 Astra and the EGR was really blocked when I brought it, nice and easy to remove and clean though which is a bonus. The engine in my Astra died when a small rod that connects the swirl flaps broke off (very common) it meant some days it felt great others it felt underpowered. If not the same engine then disregard this information.
ETA - Should add it didn't die properly. It was sold as having a fault on it, the cost of fixing was around £900 based on what the internet people told me.

So, if they use the 1.9 from other manufacturers who's is the 2.4 or is it their own?
Also seems a bit strange regarding tyre sizes?
Veloces of London, in Barnet, sell these 19 inch tyres for the 159 - £130 fitted:Also seems a bit strange regarding tyre sizes?

They put a set on mine when I bought it, and I must admit they are pretty good! I will be getting another set from them when the existing ones are shot. They are a Vredestein budget brand - see PH thread here:

Edit - very detailed thread about the Accelera tyres from Alfaowner website:

the 2.4 was only used by Alfa, Fiat and Lancia as it was deemed to long and tall for any other GM vehicles.
