Hi all,

The passenger side window on my S4S refused to go down, and after taking the door apart, I've found the culprit. There's a bit of plastic that slides left and right in the (upper) carrier channel that has the female side of a ball joint fitting, and it has cracked into two pieces right at the ball joint. For lack of a better name, the "scissor jack" that moves the window up/down has the male end (the ball) that mates with it. From the best I can determine, the entire scissor jack and motor are one assembly called the "window lift motor & regulator assembly".

Does anyone have a part number for the plastic piece, or know where I can dig one up? Maybe there's another model of car that uses the same setup. I really don't want to pay $MEGA$ for the whole assembly just to get the 50 cent piece of plastic off of it.

Thanks,
Bill

What you need is a pick-a-part yard with Jaguar stuff. Lacking that, check out eBay for Jag window motor lift assemblies and it will probably have the part you need.

Thanks Doc!

There sure are a lot of window motors for sale on eBay. I did find one guy that has apparently parted out a '91 XJ6, and is selling the window motor assembly out of each door. I'll email him and find out if the piece I need is there (it's hard to tell from the photos).

My fallback plan was to get one machined, although the ball joint would be tricky. I found a site call emachineshop.com where you can download their CAD software for free and design your own part. You then upload the design to them over the web, they charge your credit card, and send you the part(s). You can order as many as you want, and the software will give you a quote before you place your order. A really cool idea for the do-it-yourselfer, and can really come in handy for a situation like mine. I'm sure there are many uses for a place such as this for us Lotus owners when the need for a special bracket arises. I'm tempted to copy the design for the steering wheel adapter (see other posts) just to see what the cost would have been. I've used a similar service for circuit boards, and it's worked really well. In fact, the same guy that started emachineshop started a circuit board service, pad2pad.com, where you lay out the board and place your order. They give you the option of choosing from a selection of components that they carry in stock, and having them pre-soldered to the boards. You just fill in the rest.

thanks for the help,
Bill

I had the same problem. The solution was $4.61 plus tax. I took the broken part to a Chevrolet dealership parts counter and they said it was off the GM cars. The part number is 9666748 "Roller WD 263D."

The good news is that this part was prone to fail a lot and they replaced it with a better part. They don't look alike, but the new part works better.

Went back to the car, placed the part into the tract, lined up the ball end with the part, used plyers and it was done.

Good luck

Sounds good on the GM part. I'll add it to my database.

I have my own metal (engine) lathe, so I can make anything I need myself. I have seen that emachineshop site before and have their software loaded at work. They ain't cheap, but it is a neat concept.

Even better, thanks! That'll give me something to do during lunch on Monday.

Contact Jeff at JAE (805) 967-5767 and tell him that you're looking for the nylon window slider that Karl-Franz from the Esprit Fact File sourced for him. He will set you up.

Thanks Black, that did the trick! Anyone else should note that they don't look the same...the new one is round, but fits perfectly in the track. A little grease on the ball, plus a bit of coaxing with some channel locks is all it needed to snap back together.
