Restore leaf springs

Recommendations as to where I can have my old (1929)leaf springs re tempered and an extra leaf added. Also new bushes/bolts. Advise/comment please.

Can't give you a specific place to have them done, but when I had mine done (about 25 years ago) I found a place that mainly did HGV springs, I guess that's becasue car springs don't generally break and HGV do due to heavy loading.

No idea if it's still there, was on the A52 near Gamston, Notts.

On the subject of leaf springs I could really do with a new pair on the back of my Talbot Express motorhome. If anybody knows of a decent supplier please let me know

I saw somewhere a place, in England, that has a huge stock of springs for of all sorts of vehicles (inc trains) some from from years ago but can't think where, they had a website that was just a Home page as I get the feeling they're not the sort to bother much with t'internet

sorry you'll have to do your own research but it does existing (well it did last year)

Thanks for input, I have a couple of Companies contacts that place ad's in 'The Automobile' mag, but would prefer personal recommendations of work completed.

Had a spring repaired and re-tempered by Brost Forge about 9 years ago, good company to deal with

Brost Forge ..... They retemperd the front springs of my 65 Austin Gipsy in circa 1993 . Good co to deal with with. I drove the Gipsy up there and we took them off and he retempered them.

I beleive that they can make obsolete springs as well, ie Peugeot Talbot vans and Motorhomes .

Thats great, Brost is one of the Companies that place ad's into 'The Automobile', but nothing like personal recommendations. I will get the caravan onto a weigh bridge before I send off the springs as I guess that information will be useful to the forge. Thanks again.

Jones Springs in Darlaston West Mids did a good job for me recently on a 30s Lagonda spring at very reasonable cost.

I used Brost Forge a few years ago. Good service and reasonably priced.

I have absolutely no idea as to how much money re tempering , new bushes, extra spring added will cost. Under 300 quid? or over 500 quid?

My repair was to replace the leaf that forms the eye where it had snapped off. The spring came back cleaned and painted looking like new. Cost was well under £150 which seemed very reasonable to me.
