Offshore Work

Afternoon all,

I'm after some advice from from anyone on the forum that is working or has worked offshore.

I'll be saying goodbye to the Air Force in November 2013 after twelve years service and I'm looking at getting in to the offshore industry. For the last few weeks I've been trawling trawling the net looking for job ideas, training courses, employers etc and I'm getting nowhere.

I feel my biggest issue is that I don't come from a technical background. I work in air traffic control and flight operations management, a skill which might come in useful offshore but doesn't really constitute a full time offshore job.

I'm open to a total change of career and don't really mind what I do. I was looking in to both crane operations and painting/blasting but I'm not sure where to start.

Anyone have any ideas or advice?

Do you mean overseas or on oil rigs?

Not sure I can help either way, but I'm not sure what you're asking about.

If you have experience in ATC then radio operator would be your job to get into.

I'll try to find out who is looking and see what is needed when I'm back at work next week.

Thanks for the reply mate, very helpful.

I wasn't sure if that was a kind of part time job like HLO for example. I've had a look at the role and its very much like jobs I have done in the past. I'm a MET Office qualified observer already and I'm sure I would get my radio op licence with no issues.

Any help, advice or tips would be gratefully appreciated.

try the logistics companies - you'd be ideal as marine co-ordinator , these can be offshore or onshore btw
