Never heard of this before

Daughters car was in for body work under insurance claim front bumper does not align too wel so when I go back discover because car is over 3 years old body shop used "spurious" non manufacturer parts and will need to go back to insurers to see if they can get real part

Thats a new one on me though for insurance repairs that had to use proper parts?

Tip, that is the impression I was under as well. New parts must be used, unless, it has been agreed before hand that old / second hand parts can be used.
It is you that has to agree to it though not the insurance company. I also think the old / second hand parts are more the case of it will save the car being written by bringing the cost down slightly.

I think OP is refering to them using "pattern" parts as opposed to oem parts. Either way it sounds like excuse #73 from the book of of shoddy workmanship. Hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction S2red.

It's pattern parts

On an immaculate low mileage 6 year old car I can understand how it can make differennce between beyond economical repair and fix but it would have been nice to know in advance
