Just broken my 70-300

First time I have gone out taking pictures in weeks, get home, go to put camera bag on dining table, zip splits and everything drops onto tiled floor.

Body, 10-20, 18-105 seem fine.

70-300 looks like it has a big stopper on the front of it when looking through the view finder

Will get it down the Nikon repair centre at the weekend, has anyone experienced any similar fault, if so is it fixable?

Dark image suggests it's stuck at minimum aperture, in which case the mechanism which allows the camera to hold it at max aperture for viewing is bust.

Are you sure you removed the 70-300's lens cap? ;|

Also, which make of camera bag? (So I can avoid it ....)

Hope you can get things sorted quickly and without too much financial sacrifice.

House insurance is like non existent here, zero crime which means stupid mistakes cost!

re the lens cap, haha, it was on mid air, off when it came to rest

Odura gadget bag, the split is probably a result of squeezing too much in it on my trip to Japan.

I hope so as well, will have to wait and see.

Sorry to hear that, I know that feeling, dropped mine last week, felt so sick I couldnt look at it till yesterday, AF is kaput. No idea if its repairable or worth reparing, still works in MF Mode, but thats not the point, just look at it

The fixes always seem to be about £150/160.

Not good but not the end of the world. Annoying though.

Right in that spot they know you won't be able to replace it unless you shell out another 50%+ on top of it.

Ah well, it is going to make me more determined to get out and use it, especially as we are getting to the nice part of the year weatherwise, nicer conditions to shoot in.

There is a local competition with some hefty prize money as well, all over that now!

could be pursuaded to sell mine - hardly used Light Room says 4400 pics out of 100,000. Boxed and papers.

Just don't use it enough to keep it.
