Heard this coming in French air force Transall ...very much a surprise visitor into Blackpool today.

Agree quite a rare sight especially in the U.K...this one was quite rough paintwork wise lots of corrosion rectification work by the looks of it.

Not round here. See several each week, normally around 500 ft* as they transit between Toulouse and Castres.

Since that's their home patch, I'm not really surprised.

During the 1970s, the Irish Armed Forces bought quite a lot of equipment from the French and, as a result, Armee de l'Aire Transalls were fairly frequent vistors to Ireland. I remember cycling to Baldonnell Aerodrome in 1978 just to see a pair that had dropped in.

Other French stuff that used to come to Ireland in that era were Nord 262s, C-47s and Nord Noratlases.

Get down to Brooklands, they fire up the Vanguard now and again. Got a bit on vid from a few years ago..
