Pedestrians Just Walking Out

Noticed this a lot around Aberdeen, although I'm certain all cities have the same issue. Why do people feel the need to just simply walk out in front of people? I've seen it as a motorist, another pedestrian, and more recently as a cyclist. It is quite obvious a car is coming, so why do idiots just walk out without a care in the world? See it a lot at the crossing between Bon Accord/St Nicholas (if you don't know Aberdeen very well, they're two shopping centres). People just blindly walk across assuming the green man is showing, then act all shocked, or sometimes aggressive, when a car screeches to a halt and gets on the horn. Some of these folk are the common iZombie, so deeply lost in their iThing that they wouldn't notice a nuclear holocaust (still no excuse) but others have no distractions. Some follow the iZombies, just assuming that they've seen the green light without thinking to look for themselves. As this crossing is right outside my work, I see this happen practically every 10 minutes.

In the car, same applies, especially on side streets. A while back, I was turning onto Union Street (the main road through Aberdeen for the non locals) from beside Music Hall, and people just walk across without noticing the red man or cars coming from the opposite direction.

The latest thing that really pisses me off is people who walk out in front of cyclists. Due to it being impractical to have a car in the city centre, I've recently hopped on my bike (first time in 5 years, once I passed my test that was it till I moved to the city). People just blindly assume that either I'm going slowly enough that it won't matter, or that I'll just stop. Useless fking fkwits. Next time I won't stop, bhes. Let's see what happens then eh?

I hit a school kid on my mountain bike as he ran out from behind the school bus. Little tt pick himself up, called me a c##t and walked off. My front wheel was buckled and I had gone over the bars! Pedestrian are a lot harder than you think.

Not to mention the ones who step in front of me when I'm on my bike then do a deer-in-the-headlights impression exactly where I want to go, when if they either stepped back or kept going I'd not have to dodge. While directly ramming them is a bad idea, I do get close enough to brush past them.

Worst, though, was the woman walking a small dog on a long nearly-invisible lead through a shared pedestrian/cycle area. The predictable happened...

This exact thing happened to me this evening in the centre of Aberdeen. Had to virtually stop as some chap took his time ambling across in front of me.

I presume this is something to do with the blanket 20mph limit in the centre of town? Far less chance of being run over.

Seems to be a theme in East London of young "street" looking men walking out slowly infront of cars, as if to say "you will stop for me because I am very, very hard and important".

Part of me wants to floor it and see the little s st themselves.

Didn't realise that there are so many of us in Aberdeen. Anyways, I find a really bad spot is heading past the Bridge of Don Macdonalds, towards the Parkway/AECC Roundabout. Nearly Collected a man and his child there last week. I didn't have time to stop, but only to swerve into the right hand lane(Conveniently Empty). I find that suicidal lemmings frequent that area at around 11 at night, as have seen many near misses in that area of late, I've only been involved in this one though. You'd think that when walking with your child extra care would be taken :S

People are stupid. That's the only explanation for why people would walk in front of moving vehicles. Usually their inability to walk without being plugged into a music device is a secondary cause.

Last week I was sitting outside a cafe, slurping a tea and people watching. Suddenly this fking magnificent American pickup truck came up the road and scared the st out of this old dear on her oldbatmobile.

I've noticed this for a few years now, I think it's because people know their "rights" as a pedestrian but seem to forget that if a motorist was not paying complete attention to the road that their rights are not worth much when they're in a coffin.

I'm completely sick of the gangster wannabe tts who stand in the road doing a bad impression of an orangutan on a pogo-stick with their shoulders rather than completing their crossing, it's shame you cannot legally splat the bds and cleanse the gene pool

everyone walks out, pulls out, etc without looking its just assumed you'll avoid them!

Watching tourists try to cross the road in a city for instance is highly amusing if they don't understand the 'local way'

Damn right about the 'yoofs' who amble across at traffic lights as they turn green or on the A12 into Mile End/Bow. Really does my fking chops in. I put it in first and give it some beans as I drive past or at least give them a blast of the horn. Not only is it dangerous it is very disrespectful.

I was driving through Chelmsford when the traffic on my side of the road came to a complete halt as two fairly undesirable looking guys in their thirties, complete with beer cans, did the wait-whilst-I-amble thing a few cars in front of me. The traffic on the other side however wasn't quite so patient and one of the cars, although slowing down, literally drove at them. The second guy had to take a massive leap forward to get out of the way and the wing of the car actually made contact with his arse, moving him sideways half a bonnet length before he landed on his feet.

I know it's fundamentally wrong to try to run people over, even if they're arrogant cocktards, but to see that arrogance turn to shock and indignation was just priceless. I found myself clapping and cheering as I waited for the traffic to pull away. I still chuckle about it now. I'd buy the driver a pint if I could find him!
