BMW Z4 - what to pay?

Morning fellow PH'ers,

I am potentially looking at getting another toy and want to get back into a Z4 having owned one before.

Looking at a 2003 - 2005 model and it must be the 3.0i. Stacks of them on PH / Autotrader / eBay etc but there is quite a wide bracket for what is essentially the same car in terms of age, mileage, spec etc.

I find that Glass's / Parkers etc are fine for more main stream cars but don't necessarily reflect the more 'exotic' cars (anything that is not a 4 pot dag dag).

I find the best deals are ones that both the buyer and seller are content so would suggest that a good condition, reasonable spec (heated seats, PDC) with approx 60k should be approx £5500 - 6000. Would that be in the ball park?

The reason for that is the cars vary so much in spec.

Autotrader is the place that sets the asking prices not the guides anymore.

5-6 is about right, I recently helped a mate pick one out which is the same spec as you want.

You're right though, there seems to be a huge range of prices out there & it's difficult to get a good feel for what a nice one should bring. I think the main issue is there are lots of really stty cars out there which on an ad look just as good as the nice ones but are 2 grand cheaper.

A few we looked at had major holes in their history or blatant "hair-cuttery" issues.

In the end we found a really good one, all it needed was the rear springs & brake pads replaced & a good clean up, 5.5k all in.

I would say be willing to spend a little more on a car in better condition.........

I bought my last one about 4 years ago for £9000 and it was a great example that needed nothing other than a drinks holder replacing.

Prices have come a long way down now obviously and I would rather pay slightly more for a well cared for example than something ropey.

Trying to find one with sports seats but quite taxing - some have them but not heating which seems daft to me.

prices are all over, there's a very rough example near where i live up for £6000, i wouldnt pay 2 grand its that bad, buy on condition and expect to pay more for a good one.
at this age expect alot to have had paint and careless owners.

I bought mine 8 days ago, for 6.5k

Shade under 90k, full s/h (mainly BMW) with invoices for lots of work done, 10 month mot, 4 months tax.

Mine has:
M sport Seats (heated)
Power Roof (on key too)
Auto lights/wipers
Cruise Control
Grey Soft Top
Removable Hardtop
10 Speakers (Can only count 8 though...)
Xenon Lights,
Facelift rear lights (I think...)
19" CSL wheels
New front tyres

I paid 6.5k all in for it, the car is pretty much perfect. Only 1 minor scratch to sort, and a wheel to refurb (that one, is my fault though)

No cupholders though, and a retrofit of them costs £85 from the dealers for the parts, and I've had to build my own aux in cable, but loving it so far!

The specs for them are all over the place thanks to BMW's options list, Comfort Pack, Driver Comfort, Access Pack, etc.

You will find the ones on Autotrader dropping price soon for winter, and as always, cheaper if you go up north.

Yup, I think there might be two facing down in the footwell, not had any reason to get my head down there yet! I know I've got an amp in the boot.

Contemplating fitting the multifunction control wheel and retrofitting bluetooth. But really not sure if I can be arsed with paying £300+ for the effort of having to move my arm about 12" to the radio...
