After seaching for 6 months and taking a lot of advice from you guys/girls, i have now picked up a 98 4.5 Cerbie in iced blue (pictures to follow)

I cant believe how a car can make you just want to drive....even with no where to go....just long drives.

2 questions though:

What is the difference between 97 and 98 octane petrol?

Is it right for the oil pressure to vary between 35 when idle and 60 when driving (both when warmed up)?

Got to go for a drive now.......

Welcome to the club Lee

Most Cerbera drivers always use Optimax fuel from Shell. This is the only true 98 RON fuel in the UK. The higher the Octane rating the better it is for the engine, in simple terms. I always try to use Optimax where possible and around here its 84.5p/ltr which is alot cheaper than S/UL. So if you can use Optimax or S/UL if you are feeleing 'flush'!

Oil pressure is always a big question on here. A good rule of thumb is 60-80psi idle when cold, 25-40psi idle when hot and 60psi hot under load, if it goes below 20psi at idle then there could be something wrong but dont panic! Most times low oil pressure is cured by a new oil pressure spring,, pence in cost, and an oil change. Search the forums for more on oil pressure.

I dont want to teach you to suck eggs but make sure you warm her up, you know a bit of foreplay! Its not just the water temp that you want to be looking at but remember the Diff. oil and Engine oil temp. I dont think it will be long until someone put an oil temp guage in a Cerb, I think it needs to be done. Keep the RPM under 3000 for the first 10-15 mins while driving then build her up.

Check oils and fluids every week ( I check the oil everytime I go for a spin).

Have fun and be safe

Welcome and congrats on your purchase

With reference to the oil pressure gauge, mine does vary significantly when idling - today i had to break extremely hard to avoid a horse and it went right down to less than 20, but then immediately shot back up! Aim for the 12.30 (or thereabouts) setting on your temp and and oil gauges when driving normally and all should be OK
