What Car 3-4k

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine has 3k, maybe 4k (he says) to spend on a car. Hes looking for something sporty to use as a daily driver. No kids or dogs to worry about. So only provisos are that it has atleast 2 seats and handles well. He does pretty high mileage (about 12k per year) so it would need to be fairly reliable, but mpg not a massive concern.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable in this area of Cars so I'm putting it out to the PH knowledge base. I thought an EP3 Type r would do nicely? Would he get into a Cooper S for this sort of money (He likes Minis)? Alfas? Are they reliable at the price range he would be looking at?

Looks like it's a Cat D, It does seem He could buy a nice one for that budget though

If someone only has 3 or 4 grand to spare on a car but does high mileage, I don't really see something like a ropey old Porsche being a good choice!

Mint accord type r would be a box ticker. Not the greatest looking but are good value for money.

True, In regards to the Porsche I was more referring to the Boxster (would it be likely he is going to get much trouble with something like that?) the 944 I doubt he would consider.

Sorry to bump this, but does anyone have anything else to add?

Quite a lot of good jap stuff in that range, Toyota celica, nissan 200sx or 300zx, mitsubishi 3000 GT or FTO, or honda s2000. Fiat coupe might be worth a punt too, the interior looks quite a nice place to be.
