window problems when opening/closing door

Whilst opening the drivers door sometimes the button fails to do anything for a second or 2 and sometimes works instantly, the window then either drops halfway down or all the way down and then when i get out it returns to 2" short of closed , or if the window has been put down all the way after opening and closing will return halfway, am assuming it may be the sensor ????!!!! (seems to recover for a short time after a power wash )

The sensor only tells the control box if the door is closed or not. It will either be the wiring connectors inside the door or the window limit microswitch, or a combination of the two that are the problem.

Agree with Tanguero. It's worth checking the plugs for corrosion. Mine were full of of congealed green sludge due to water ingress....

ok , i did just hav the door panel off with an auto lecky who was pretty perplexed , and i did mention the connectors but he didnt really respond , a bit of wd40 did get the door throw working well , i do think theres a high chance of it being the connectors because i dont remember this issue before they took the doors off to wrap her, so where are the connectors , and the microswitch ? regards

Aside from checking inside the door, pull the carpet back at the base of the A-post, you should find a white oblong plug in the cutout close to the lower door hinge fixings.

managed to get the door pannel off and found 2 x 2 pin conector block and 1 multi pin connector block for the interior button gave them a little brush off , was un able to find this microswitch , am unfamiliar with an A post , but the carpet on the inside wall was glued down , checked the connection was all good on the windows/door locking unit on the back shelf, am now thinking it may need reconditioning but have heard that it s a 2 week job and it may not be tha cause of the problems???

Its not the control box, its the connectors or the microswitch.

The microswitch is under the leading edge of the glass. You can see it when you take the door card off. There are always about 3 more connectors tucked down inside the door than you find the first time you look for them! I replaced mine with proper AMP Superseal watherproof connectors and it permanently solved all door and window problems.

The A pillar is the one in front of the door, form the front edge of the windscreen down to the bottom of the door frame. The door harness comes through the hinge area into the car body and there are a bunch of connectors there under the carpet as well as the ones inside the door its self.

finally located the cluster on the inside and gave them all squeeze, remarkably the door/window are behaving as they should do for the time being , i dont expect it to last so will endeavour to exchange all the plugs as you recommended , thank you kind sir , my bad day just got a little less annoying.

Having similar issues with passenger door. Worked intermittantly on interior button, exterior button fine, then exterior intermittant, then nothing on either!

Took door card off and cleaned one connector which looked worse than the others and had been sitting in line with the water running off the outer edge of the window glass - no change. Tanguero suggested persevering so had another go and cleaned everything I could find in the door - exterior button now works again. Hopefully after round 3 this weekend I'll get the interior one sorted too. I will check that connector in the sill as well.

I never found cleaning them lasted long at all - I was plagued by these sorts of issues until I actually soldered on decent waterproof connectors.
