HELP! Dialer problem!
Discussion
There is some form of dialer that has infected my PC.
occasionally, either whilst online, or not, the computer starts trying to dial..
there are no programs running, nothing to "end" in the task manager..
Adaware etc doesn't pick it up. I have Avast Antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall, and neither do anything about it.
the only way I can stop it connecting to wherever it's dialing, is to either pull the phone-lead out, or switch the computer off!!!
the only evidence I can find that anything ever happened however, is an entry in the system log, that reads:
"The user sbac_10 successfully established a connection to using the device COM3. "
I have NO users configured on my PC under anyhting like that name...
WHat the hell is going on here!?!?! anybody know how I can stop this?
Thanks in advance...

Are you sure it is not just Avast trying to check for updates? Some anti virus software will initiate a dial up connection for this purpose.
It must be something that has a preconfigured permission in Zone Alarm or else ZA would flag an alert.
Try turning off all dial up permissions in ZA and then see what triggers an alert.

have tried Search&Destroy.. comes up with nothing..
will try the reset all dial-ups thing in ZA.. thanks for that tip.
surely ZA should say something if it's dialling !?!??
thanks both
edited to ad:
How do I tell ZA to flag up every dial-attempt!?!?
can't seem to find the relevant option.. (I only have the free version if that matters)

Piers, probably not helpful in the moment; but maybe at a later point...
I use a Linux desktop on my networked machines, and I've never had any trouble with viruses, worms, spyware or dialers.
You may want to try Suse or Mandrake:
