For me, it was always between the Mk 2 and Mk 3 but ultimately I have to plump for the Mk 2 Lotus as my father had a red 1500GT. Has to be red though not white and green.
I also like the late metallic dark green 1600Es which I lusted after.

Back in the '80s before insurance was crippling for 18/19 year olds, I was combing the Exchange & Mart and there were two interesting cars for the same price I had my eye on, a Peugeot 304 Cabriolet & a MKII Lotus Cortina, both for around £1750. They are often

Uren Savage 3000E as owned by a neighbor of ours back in the early 1970's
1600E spec in lovely Aubergine with black vinyl roof.
I was never allowed to go out in it as my parents declared that it was "too fast"
Never forget being shown the speedo by the neighbors son, where after one outing up the Sidcup by-pass the needle was jammed fast at an indicated 120MPH!!!!!!
