I mean, how the hell is this worth 800 quid?! The reserve isn't even met! Don't get me wrong, I can understand why mexicos etc fetch mega money, but a boggo spec Escort?

Have you seen the price of a decent RS or Rally prepped MK2?

Now put yourself in the shoes of someone with a stolen Rally prepped MK2 that needs a new ID.

£1k + for that car wouldn't be a bad investment in those circumstances.

The 2 door Escrot mark2 are used for the shell - which is then completely re-fabricated into a group 4 works spec shell. Once completed these Mk2 rally cars are £20k to £100k depending on what spec it is built to.

It surprises me that one this rusty could be transformed. One hell of a lot of work required I reckon!

About...(Oh christ was it that long ago!) 13/14 years ago I owned a Genuine Mk2 mexico.

it had been nut and bolt stripped and restored by a professional mechanic.

Burton 2.1 engine. Leda adjustable. The lot. 160bhp at the wheels.

At 19 the insurance was crippling and drank like a fish but i loved it...until my money ran out.

I basically had to give it away as NO ONE wanted escorts. If only i could have stored it

Worse thing was I looked after it really well. Loved it. The next owner was terrified of it and after only 100 miles ploughed it into a tree writing it off...Tit.

Might not sell for £40k but it isn't a million miles off what people are paying for that particular RS model.

Compared to some of the heaps that get converted to GP4 spec, that is almost road worthy!

I'll post a link later to a mates GP4 build that has been on going for 6 years. Proper GP4 build as well, BD engine, ZF box, 5 link axle, whilst still keeping leafs, etc. Apparently a properly converted shell to GP4 spec is worth £15k.
