Electronic Exhaust Cutout Valves / Decats

I'm wondering why Electronic Exhaust Cutout Valves seem so much popular in America and rather unheard of in England.

Has anybody installed one onto any of their cars? I'm interested in buying one as well as a few friends after I have enlightened them about what they actually are and do.

Plenty around over here. Personally encountered them on 911s and Monaros.

And I think they're electric rather than electronic.

Was the 911 and Monaro that you saw fitted specifically for a track or for just "stsn'giggles" ?

They're not unheard of at all. Google exhaust bypass valve.

Aston V8, Porsche 'PSE', 360?/430 Ferraris all have them from the factory .

Seems to be a popular mod on 300c's with the V8 petrol engines over there and many over here as well.

I didn't know they were so popular over here. Even a mechanic I know pulled a funny face when i mentioned it to him. Looks as if ebay is vastly cheaper than the rest.

Expect import charges when you buy anything from the states. Expect to add 22% ish on top and don't forget they tax you for shipping as well.

You may get away with it but don't bank on it.

About 35 years ago my Dad had a simple cable operated one on his V8 Yanks probably still available for a fraction of the cost.

Lots of cars over on the Hsv& Monaro have them so best to ask there. Wortec fit them to quite a few of their systems
