My sister has had the orange engine warning light illuminate (Mini One 1.6 06reg), and she said that the car feels a bit juddery below 20mph although she admits this could be her feeling a bit nervous about the warning light and not driving normally.

Any idea what this could be? And is it safe for her to drive it with the orange warning light as I seem to remember that it would come up red if you were to not drive it but orange if it recommended taking to a garage soon. I cannot get to her until Sunday and she is a bit worried about driving it.

In the past (18months ago), an O2 sensor failed but not sure if it is the same issue frown

Thanks for any help!

It could be as minor as an exhaust sensor or something quite important.

Best to check with a garage.

If it's affecting the engine as she drives, then I wouldn't use it but get someone to look at it personally.

I thought the same, we'll give the AA a call and see if they'll go check it out. Sods law is that we only left Hants yesterday where she lives and are now a couple of hundred miles away for a week laugh

Cheers smile

Apparently it's the 3rd coil playing up, any idea on where to get a coil pack for a Mini over the weekend ? Is it something a dealer would have in stock?

You should find one at a decent auto factor, fairly standard part.

We replaced the spark plugs, ignition leads and coil pack but the engine warning light is still on. Do we need to reset the error code with a scanner or would the error code switch itself off?

The code detected by the AA chap was P0303 Cylinder 3 misfire detected.

Thanks

Sorry! Just a quick update, we left it running and turned it on and off a few times and the engine light as gone off smile

Thanks for all the advice, it appears the problem was the coil pack as when the old pack was fitted it was juddery and quite loud, this stopped with the new pack. I swapped the units a couple of times and both tests were done with new plugs and ignition leads to make sure it wasn't in my head!

For anyone googling for OBD code P0303 on a Mini One the code signifies a misfire on cylinder 3 and this can be down to spark plugs, ignition leads or the coil pack. We bought all of the parts for £88 from GSFparts, Mini wanted £102 just for the coil pack eek The only thing we had to 'modify' was the coilpack as the collars were too slim for the existing bolts, so we simply drilled them out to size smile

Ah, you'll be wanting the loose coil pack thread then.
