I have been thinking about this for a while. When it rains, people put on their wiper blades. Most put them on an appropriate speed for the amount of rain hitting the windscreen. The lucky ones have rain sensing wipers that do it for them, but most of us manage to do it manually.
There is a small hard core of people that seem to have one speed for their wipers. Full speed. In any wet conditions from a small drizzle to monsoon, at any road speed including parked, you see these drivers (I use the term loosely) with the wipers on maximum, like a rally car breasting a ford.
I have come to the conclusion that these people have never realised there are more than two positions to the wiper control stalk. They bang it from full up to full down, missing all the lovely in between bits for intermittent etc.
Anyone agree?

Most cars I have owned vary the speed at standstill, so no matter what setting you have them on the switch to intermittent when you stop.
Surely we should all just be grateful that so many of the terrible non driving god people can find the switch at all rolleyes

What gets me thinking is the drivers that have their rear wipers on and its not even raining anymore, surley they would be looking in their rear view to see whats behind them and think "better turn these off seeing how its stopped fking raining"

When I was in the army a couple of carloads of us set out from Aldershot to go to Altontowers, I was frontseat passenger in Woodsy car, at the time a brand new N reg pug 106, going up the M1 it started raining, then pissing it down, Woody still hasn't switched his wipers on, then it started really raining, thinking I'm in some insane game of dare, (we had a very competitive friendship that would occasionally turn violent) I kept my mouth shout, now we've got the sort of rain that bounces off the road I shout ' for fkssake Woody turn the fking wipers on' to which he replied, 'I can't, they don't work', i was stting myself,it was st like that scene in 'Planes trains and automobiles'.

Years ago I was passenger in a friends mini going from Plymouth to Bath. We'd gone most of the way when a 7.5 tonner pulled out on a DCW as we were passing and clipped the front. In the resulting collision the headlamp popped out and when through the toughened glass screen (very old mini). We stopped and removed the rest of the windscreen and turned back for home, which is when the weather turned bad... To paraphrase the blues brothers "It was 90 miles to Plymouth, we had a full tank of gas, it was hailing and we were wearing sunglasses"
