What 80/90s classic with space for the family?
Discussion
I'm in need of a car that can carry me plus two child seats, for the kids of course, but am looking for something with a sense of occasion or fun to drive, or a bit different, maybe a 80/90's classic. Top of the list is an E24 635CSi, but my budget doesn't quite net me a good'un. I'd also like an E28 or E34 535, or maybe E30 325i. Budget might even stretch to an E34 M5. So what's the problem? Well living in Australia means the choice is a bit sparse and the distance to look at cars can be a bit large. So I need a bigger pool of cars to look at.
Take the E28 - I've only been able to look at 2 in the past 4 months. I've only driven one E34 M5 (only 88 imported) and 2 635s.
What else is worth a look? I'm thinking German or Swedish - Saab 900 T16, Volvo 850 T5, early Audi S4. Audi Quattro was on the list but, again, trouble finding one. I'd like a 944 S2, but the back really is too small for a couple of booster seats. Broadening the search meant I caught myself looking at Alfa 75/164Qs and Pug 406 V6s the other day...
Obvious answer might be an E36 M3, but I just can't stand the looks of the E36. If I wanted a more modern car I'd just get a Liberty 3.0 RB and be done with.
Only stipulations are that it must be able to fit two booster seats in the back, one of which will be behind a 6'2" driver, and it must have a manual gearbox, which rules out most Mercs. Budget is AU$20k'ish, if that helps.

Imprezas, Galants and Legnums have never really appealed - I've had a few Subarus, and still have a Forester, so its not the brand but more, oh I don't know, just the sense of having something a bit different. Which is why I'm having trouble finding what I want!
Audi 80/90 - mmm, poss - had an 80 many years ago and liked it.
Just seen a couple of 900 Turbos on Ebay, but both are around 1000km away...
