Anyone got an ideas how to get rid of the musty smell that comes from wet carpets - have now waterproofed the roof but cannot get rid of the smell????

Thanks for your help/ideas

I had the same problem, borrowed some antiseptic carpet cleaner - smelt like fresh sick for about a week, but completely fragrance free now thank god.

Autoglym carpet/upholstery cleaner works very well - as a bonus it smells good too and is easy to use. Won't get deep smells out of seats though, mind you - but is excellent on carpets.

Also, check for discarded pants behind the seats!

I recently god fed up with the look and (slight) wiff of my much-maligned magnolia carpets. I tried numerous foaming carpet cleaners from Halfords and their ilk, to bugger-all avail.

Discovered finally that an initial wetting with Vax carpet cleaner solution, followed by a good scrubbing with 1001 carpet cleaner did the trick. The water stains, and the wiff, which I'd accepted as being unshiftable, are now starting to go away.

However, it's bloody hard work, I have to say. I've managed about a quarter of the carpets so far, and have much more to do. Taking the seats out looks like the way to save a lot of hassle. If you get the carpets wet like this, some will inevitably need glueing back down. Mind had already got plenty wet enough in the car's past life, so I threw caution to the wind and got on with it.
