I went to take a run in the 280 for the first time in a couple of weeks and noticed the clutch slipping above 3000/3500 rpm. The clutch is 10-12 years old but has not many miles (maybe 5K) and is a high-end Center Force.

Any gear, no issues with fluid levels, no prior notice, now judders in reverse and smells like burn clutch.

It seems the clutch can be changed with the engine in and I have no reason to take the engine out. Agree?

Any other thoughts? I'm not a happy camper at the moment. Grady

Hi mate...When i was going to have mine changed the ford guy had a look and said that the gearbox looks like it moves back enough for access to the clutch..Should be the same for yours?...Ziga

The engine had to come out when mine was done. (Early S1).

(If it's not one of those annular jobs...)

Obvious perhaps, but have you checked if there's some free play on the clutch lever ?

have had odd problems in past with Fords where cable clutches don't always return, or adjustment too tight...
