DBS / DB9 fuel, is premium fuel a waste?

I am sure that I read something but can't find the thread. Apart from the claimed additional cleaning additives am I right in thinking that here is no performance gain for the V12s with premium fuel? Something to do with knock sensors?

There are no knock sensors though, so no power to be gained, just the knowledge you are treating your car well

Take a trip up to Stanlow refinery, and you'll see the shell tankers, filling up next to the tesco tankers, and the sainsbury's tankers etc etc...

That was in the south East....... I'm just saying what I've seen at Stanlow...

Not with premium they don't. But yes, 95RON just comes from the nearest refinery. Exxon add their additives to the full fuel trucks, Shell make their top fuel separately. V Power is worth the money to me.

Yep.....handbook clearly states.... 98ron........95ron minimum....I'm not interested in getting the last bhp.... Car has been designed to run on 95, and runs perfectly well...

I can't believe you said that. Your ECU will be pulling the ignition timing like mad to stop the engine from self-destructing.

The V8 engine was designed to run on 98 octane and use 95 in a pinch. You're losing out on power AND fuel consumption.

I wonder how much the ECU can pull ignition. Wouldn't surprise me if it couldn't pull it enough to prevent detonation under WOT.

Why don't you try 4/5 tanks of super and 4/5 tanks of the normal? Then you can decide which one you prefer. The difference is £6.40 over 80 litres.

If it couldn't run on 95 they wouldn't have put it in the manual....

I've had TVR's so I'm very familier with pinking.....I've never heard my Vantage pink, and it runs perfectly.....but thanks for your concern
