Just been listening to the F1 on Radio 5 live, with James Allen commentating. What a complete idiot.
soapbox No enthusiasm at all, has to explain every technical detail or car control issue like we're all stupid and don't understand rolleyes, and at times, I actually switched off as his boring tone just droned away in the background. Why on earth he's doing this job, is beyond me. Get him well away from F1 and commentating all together. Grrrr...

Back home now and watching quality Sky F1.smile

Anyone else agree?

To abuse the old joke; he does have a voice for print journalism, but he knows his stuff from the technical perspective.

Better writing than broadcasting. I find his voice and manner a turn off, but his articles often informative and interesting.

His website is brilliant - one of the best out there, not listened to him on the radio, but had no issues with him when he was on the TV.

I'm another fan of his website. Used to annoy me immensely on TV but he really does seem to know what he's talking about.

Perhaps his assumption is that people will be listening to Five Live with the primary aim of hearing about the football, so he's explaining everything more to allow listeners to get into something they perhaps haven't heard before?
