_Batty_'s VX220 2.2
Discussion
After finally having enough of fixing our Megane

We traded it in for a low milage (38k) Vauxhall VX220 2.2
The car was traded in at a Part exchange center, that had no idea what to do with it. It had sat SORN for 3 years, with no servicing and only moving for its MOT.
It was traded in for a Mini Cooper S convertible (the woman who bought it thought the VX was rather impractical).
Anyway, after picking the car up (and the first thing i did was smack the front plate off exiting a garage) I knew this was going to be a brilliant choice, I had it fully serviced and the geo set.
Tight, (other than a vibration on hard acceleration, later found to be the NS engine mount) and quick with steering by telepathy.
Having put almost 1000 miles on her already, the only thing that she has needed is a NS engine mount and an EGR valve cheat.
This is my O/H's commuting car and she loves it!

they are only 145BHP which is low for a 2.2 but i think performance is pretty good at 0-60 5.9 with a top end of 137MPH with average MPG. The weight to power ratio helps i guess.
Yeah thats one of the things that surprised me most about this car. Even 'toe in' it returns just under 40mpg.Shame the OEM exhaust box is soo quiet.

Do you miss the midrange of the Megane?
Chalk and cheese. Couldn't be more different. Megane was very difficult to drive smoothly (peaky boost), but rapid when lit.
But was so uninvolving to drive compared to the VX.
The VX is 'hardwired' into you, and very smooth. Its quick, but in a linear motion. It pushes harder @ 5.5k, but tons of low down grunt.
Honestly if you can put up with falling into it, and a stupid boot, you'd never look back.
I took a similar route a few years ago had a couple of 225's got a VX and never looked back. Now on my 5th VX.
VX is for drivers and 225s are for people who like talking about driving in the pub. 3x the fun. It slower in a straight line but the VX will teach you that this is almost totally unimportant with cars.
Drop me line if you want a hardtop

Looking good mate, glad you went and got one and looks like you got a nice little deal too!
As you say, they are telepathic cars, plenty quick enough in a straight line to make more than enough progress, but huck some corners in the mix and you just dont need to slow down!
Mine is for sale now, the requirements of moving an Alsation in a VX and trips to the SW to see familly as often as I do now means it doesnt get used as it should
gutting, but certainly a car to come back to when I can do a 2 car garage for myself!

I never understand this.. Why are you on your 5th? Are you a trader or have you bought s
t cars and flogged them on or what?Even if you started out with a s
t NA, sold it and bought a less s
t NA, decided you want a turbo and then got a VXT.. it would only be 4. I don't understand why you would change to the same car so often?
"this one is better because its yellow"
