Having just bought my 1st 911, a 991 Cab, I was alarmed when a fellow club member said I'd get between 6 and 8 thousand miles out of my tyres. As I've never kept a car long enough to actually change the tyres I'm wondering whether this is true, and what is it going to cost me if I keep this one.

6-8k for the rears is not unusual. You may get upto 12k. Or more if you drive like a granny.

Its true, i get approx 6k from the rears of my 996 C4S. I find it a complete joke to be honest as i do approx 10k a year so £250 a corner is a pain in the ass.

I would have thought the more modern 911's would have been better.

..If you run 1 degree negative rear camber on a 12" wide boot, it's going to scrub out the inner edges.. nothing you can do about it I'm afraid, apart from get friendly with a tyre supplier and get some discounts.. !, 1 of my other cars running 135*70*13 rubber, doesn't seem to suffer as much.. wink

Surely this depends on how you drive (and whether you've knocked the geometry out - or not)?

Having said that - I've never managed more than 10K on a pair of rear tyres ... normally about 8K and I did get half way through my GT3 rears in 1,000 miles ......

I must admit surprise at this post!

How can you buy £70K+ performance car and be so concerned that tyres costing about £300 each might need replacing at less than 10K miles???eek

I suppose it takes all sortsrolleyes

My rear P-Zero Corsa's have done around 7K miles and will need replacing soon. The outside edges have fared better, but that's -1.26' camber for you! It's been great fun wearing them out though! biggrin

I HAVE come from a Boxster that didn't need new tyres at 17000 miles. So, I might be going BACK to Boxster sooner than I thought! And I'm only a poor Postman and £300 for a tyre is a weeks wages!

£700 for a pair of rear tyres each year is nothing compared to what your 991 will cost you in depreciation over that period!

Postman? Come on - pull the other one! smile

I don't think anyone knows what wear will be like on those Pirellis, but I used to get about 10-12,000 on the Michelin rears on both 997s I had. That's a year's driving. I'd look at how much petrol that is (£3500!!) and stop worrying smile

I get about 5 to 6,000 from my rear tyres...fronts can last longer but as already said, depends entirely on how you drive it.

But tyre cost pails into insignificance when you consider annual depreciation on most new / newish Porsches (approx £10,000 pa ???). Then there's OPC servicing costs and if you keep for a few years, extended warranty at £1,000+ per year.

I know all about this as now own a 40k Turbo (as everyone on here loves to remind me ;-)

Ah well, it's only money (sob) !

On here 'postman' could mean 'flies supplies to oil rigs with a helicopter' though...

How embarrassing!

My 997 C4S is just about to have its 4th set of tyres after around 42,000 miles, so clearly that works out at 14k per set - I normally need to replace the fronts and rears at the same time.

The first two sets were Michelin Pilot Sport 2s and the most recent set were Bridgestone RE050 (because Michelins were unavailable). Assuming Pilot Supersports are not available N-rated, then it will probably be back to Pilot Sport 2s, although there was nothing wrong with the Bridgestones.

The car is used daily and I don't hang around - particular around corners (according to my wife). Having said that, the car is not tracked and I don't try and leave huge black lines on the road when pulling away or oversteering around roundabouts!

I know its not quite a 911 but I got 25K out of the last set of rears on my Cayman S. Approx 20-22k of that would have been motorway driving however.
