As above.

Has to be reasonable to insure - so sports cars off limits. Preferably a diesel. Has to be auto. Leather seats, etc a must...want something a bit fashionable. But not an Audi!
Initial thoughts are either a 1 series or 3 series.

Really want some other ideas - so any other suggestions???

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. Did consider 5 series and e class. But thinking they are a little too big.
4 litre diesel may give problems with insurance cost. Considered a Merc clk the insurance was 5 times that of the 1 series for some reason. Keep the suggestions coming!
Will look into the jag.

What about a Volvo C30? The D5 is a lovely lump, and it still looks a little bit sporty? They're well into your price bracket now, and beats having a non descript 1 series - IMHO of course!

S-Type Jaguar is smaller than XJ, very nice drive especially in diesel form, both of mine were very reliable. Nice Ford built 2.7 Diesel with 207BHP.

You can get a C320 Cdi for £8k. I'm in trouble for selling ours still.

Really? I didn't realise Merc had an unreliable period.
