Contiki Holiday Tours
Discussion
Morning all,
I have been looking for a long time to go to Australia, I have been exploring different ways to manage to get to see the main attractions/sights.
The best option at the moment is a Contiki Tour. Link - http://www.contiki.com/destinations/australia/tour...
I do think this is the best idea as I will be travelling alone, then moving on to see friends on the gold coast later on in the holiday.
Anybody have any other ideas?
Many thanks
Ben

When I went to Greece a few years ago with some mate, there was Contiki Tour boat, they seemed to be following us to each island we went to (we were travelling independently btw). It comprised American students on a "spring break" or whatever they called it. You can imagine what it was like.
Never met a bigger bunch of lightweight drinking, loose-moraled, promiscuous sluts in all my life.

I did a contiki tour from cairns to Sydney over about 3 weeks, it was about 5 years ago, mix of Brits and US with a few Canadians, it was great fun, and as above plenty goes on....
How old are you? I was 25 at the time, most people on it were aged 18-26, and I probably wouldn't do it now at 30!
It is more expensive than doing it on your own, plus no flexibility in how long you stay in places, there is a fixed schedule and if you don't keep up you get left behind.
To sum up, if you want 3 weeks of drinking, loose young women, sun and parties, it's great!

At 20 you should have a great time! I went early december, and it ran to about the 28th, so was there over christmas. I was at the surf camp for a big christmas eve party, and spent christmas morning surfing with a hangover...
Weather wise we got lucky, with loads of sun and not too much rain, but it is rainy season, especially the further north you go as it's in the tropics so there is the potential for it to tip it down, which would be rubbish if you were in the whitsundays.
A lot of the activities cost extra, like the whitsundays sailing(but that was the best bit for me), also skydiving, quad biking etc all cost more.

That sounds amazing, I saw all of the activities cost extra like the harbour bridge climb etc, I know you did go a few years ago but can I ask how much you took spends wise? It does seem to be an expensive country!!Weather wise we got lucky, with loads of sun and not too much rain, but it is rainy season, especially the further north you go as it's in the tropics so there is the potential for it to tip it down, which would be rubbish if you were in the whitsundays.

To be honest can't really remember, but the exchange rate was much better then, 2 for 1 so money went further. I think for most of the big activities you could pay by credit card, and I used cash for everything else. There are days you need a lot (like hitting the nightclubs in surfers paradise) and others you hardly need any (like whitsundays where everything included)

Cheers for the information, It's great to speak to somebody who has done the tour before, I've budgeted for £100 for a nightout each night, £150 for general spends and souvenirs then £20 for lunch and £50 for dinner.I know it's probably over the top but I would rather have more than less!
