I'm considering having my clutch replaced. I would not it myself, but

a). I can't be bothered to take the engine out.
b). I don't have a pit or ramp
c). I don't have the time.

So a few questions:

1). Does anyone know if I can get a lightened flywheel or somthing for it?
2). Which clutch do I need, it's a 2.8 clutch isn't it?
3). Can I get an uprated clutch plate or somthing?

Cheers

I got a clutch kit from David Geralds for about 200. I found ford 'unable' to supply the individual ford bits. Why do you need an uprated clutch?

Just fancy one that will last a bit longer. Got a competition clutch in my mini, and it has stood up very well, except when the oil seal blew and it started juddering badly.

A clutch kit for a 2.8 is £120, but it's different for the 2.9, but IIRC the S3 uses the N Type Gearbox from a 2.8??

So I would need a 2.8 clutch kit?

My original clutch lasted 12 years and about 80k miles and that was a cr*ppy ford one. The make david gerald sells is not ford but is a well known make which admitedly I can't remember. If you go for an uprated clutch I would have thought it would make that much difference to the amount of time they last as I assume they uprate the springs but the friction material will be pretty much the same won't it? If it is also uprated and therefore resists slippage more than presumably it will last less time in the same way that sticky tyres last less time... could be wrong but it's worth checking.

As for what you need I'm afraid I don't know which bits from ford you need in terms of a 2.8/2.9 clutch but if you phone david gerald he'll sell you a kit with the right bits in for a 2.9 s3. If you choose to source the ford bits then I hope you have a more cooperative ford dealer than I do

All the best,

Mark
