AUDI A6 1.9 TDI's

I am after a cheap load lugger and i quite like the look of these, space is important and these appear to be that little bit bigger than the average estate which is a bonus.
I am looking at the 1.9 tdi's, can anybody confirm if this is the same engine from the vw range? is there any common problems with these? ie anything likely to be more hassle that i would have if i just picked up a vw passat estate?
