Winning a car.

I have a chance of 1 to 100 to win a car this friday. It is a brand new Hyundai i20 in very decent spec. Presumably with the cheapest 1.2l petrol. Not very PH-worthy, but a tidy shopping trolley nevertheless.
However, this got me thinking. What would you do when you win a car?
Drive it a while, and sell it later on as a normal used car?
Put it on sale, trying to get something from it's list price in cash? (12.000 pounds in this case)
Or something else?
My first thought was it wouldn't sell for much more new with 0 miles on the clock, as opposed to one year later with ~10k miles on it. I could for example let my sister drive it for a while.

My teacher at school won a Fiesta in the Eastern Daily Press spot the ball competition; original V reg so it had vinyl seats 1 litre and wind up windows. Lucky.Edited to add that another teacher at the same school won the Marlin sports car Blue Peter gave away in a competition by guessing the number of ping pong balls it would take to fill it. Sounds like a lucky bloke but if you met his wife he wasn't...

I won a MK2 Golf GTI aged 18, Daily Mirror "Car a Day" competition, you had to ring a number and name a pop song, write it on a postcard and send it in, I was at a new job, skint, doing the franking, the one perk so I franked it at work and sent it off, thought no more about it.
Until I got two letters one saturday morning, my dad brought them up to me I had sent off for my test knowing the price was changing from £15 to £16.50, I thought they would just let it through and think I had found an old form, they didnt, they sent it back asking for another £1.50, which was annoying but not as annoying as the delay, my own fault I guess !
Second letter said, from MGM (Mirror Group Newspapers"
"Dear Mr Jackson we have the pleasure of informing you that you are the winner of our Car a Day Competiton, your prize is a brand new Golf GTI with a tank of fuel and 12 months Road Tax, etc etc etc"
So, there was me reading it in bed, I couldtn quite comrephend what I was reading, I shouted my dad and showed it him, he was dumbfounded, he shouted my mum who was asleep and told him to shut up, then realised what he was on about.
Anyway, took a coupel of months to appear but off we went to collect it from Smith Knight Fau in Stockport, "F370 UNH", MK2 8 valve GTI in black, my dad bought it off me for £8000 plus his old Capri, my dad had the car 14 years and really enjoyed it, then gave it to me a few years back, I sold it eventually and it got "Dubbed" then scrapped, I ended up buying a Mk1 Golf GTI after a year of Capri, so at one point we have black Mk1 and Mk2 GTI's, I had money to see me through college to do computing which I otherwise couldnt have done, am now sat chairing the team meeting for my IT team in Atlanta, a nice Mustang V8 parked outside for my use so that few grand came at a good time and I think altered the course of my life for the better. I also bought a nice leather jacket, went on holiday, bought a Commodore Amiga and all manner of other stuff I coudlnt have afforded otherwise. I was working on the airportin cargo and I became "the kid that won the golf GTI", people still mention it.
We have a clip board at hgome that my mum did to commenorate the win when my dad gave me the car, has the letter, cutting frm the paper etc, always a nice remeinder.

Is it? I though he said it was a Hyundai?What it sells for =/= what it's actually worth...
I can't imagine a better scenario other than taking a cash alternative or selling it immediately or (if you're a powerfully built company director) donating said Hyundai to a very desperate charity...
sell it, £12k is a lot of money if you like interesting used cars. Or sell it, buy a BINI for the sister and spend the rest on coke and hookers.
