Selling only car - hire or run a snotter/shed alongside
Discussion
I should be trying to sell my only car soon, but I need one for work. So, do I just sell mine and then hire one until I find a replacement? Or do I find a snotter/shed and run that alongside my current car until it sells?
I guess a hire car would save two lots of insurance and maintenance etc, but may not be cheap. A snotter would double most things bill wise, but would mean I have a runaround ready for when mine sells (if it sells).
Any ideas? Thanks all.

if your doing a snotter, be a good idea to do it asap, because then you have a working car if/when anything goes wrong.
for the garuntee of being able to get to work the hire car makes sense
financially, i wouldnt be surprised if a banger works out cheaper, depending on how long you'll be using it.
just for the fun of it, id go for a banger, but thats because i love car shopping ha

Sounds like a part-ex at a dealer might be easiest for you. Or, depending on how specific you are with your replacement requirements, a long weekend may suffice? When I sold my only car, I already had a replacement eyed up and picked it up within three days of selling my old car.
Sorry, should have explained this. I'm selling my car to downsize for a bit and free up some cash for my house deposit fund. I'm hoping to get at least £5k for mine and not spend much more than £1.5k at the most. I doubt a dealer would part ex and give you the cash remainder? Thanks anyway.

I must admit, I've spent weeks now glued to the classifieds seeing what is available for minimum pennies. It's quite good fun for the garuntee of being able to get to work the hire car makes sense
