Home Made Tire Softener
Discussion
Hello Everyone,
I am a new member in this forum, I am here to get some tips and experiences from you guys.
I am Brazillian and I have a Drag race car.
I have been looking for a formula to create my own Tire Softener, cause here In Brazil we don´t have these sort of products in the stores, We can buy from another places, like from USA or Europe, however the customs probably will seize it.
So with this scenario, the only way is I create my own Tire Softener. I´ve already researched about it, some people says that uses Tinner, WD-40, Fluids, Diesel, and so on. I don´t know if it really works.
I´ve been passing on my tires a mixture of WD-40, Hydraulic steering fluid and Solvent Rubber. I haven´t tested it yet, I will test it next weekend.
Anyway, does anybody know a formula that really works ?
Thanks.
Rafael

tear up some flannel sheets to the same width as your tires. when we were allowed to soak the tires we used the pull down cloth towels from service station washrooms etc, perfect width. wrap the tires with the soaked towels, wrap as tight as you can with plastic wrap. with the car on jackstands put the wheels back on the car. rotate the wheels a 1/4 turn a day for 4 days. unwrap and repeat rotating every few hours until you're ready to use them. the second step is very important. this works every bit as good as any commercial softener without the $200 price tag. it is detectable so your sanction must permit tire treatments. we used this method for years with great results and no negative effects. this will bring a 60 durometer reading into the low 40's.
