I am working in London this week and then we are looking to spend the weekend at a remote beach on the South Coast. Was looking at Cornwall but its a bit of a trek. 6hrs min! So any recommendations a little closer. Would prefer self catering but many have min of 7 nights we are only looking at 3.

Must be picturesque and nice for walks but not too far from some restaurants!

Try Swanage, nice walks around the headland,Tilly Whims,Old Harry rocks etc. not too far for a trip into Bournemouth/Poole.

There's nowhere "remote" on the South Coast but within easy striking distance of London, for obvious reasons. Unless you meant somewhere like Dungeness.

Aldwick Bay, Siddlesham and Witterings are quite nice and will be quiet this time of the year.

This place does decent accomodation and food - http://www.crab-lobster.co.uk/bar-and-restaurant/ - and is nicely located between the different beaches.

The Gower is absolutely stunning....but a trot from London. Failing that Swanage/Dorset is a good recommendation for nice beaches near London. Or the North Norfolk Coast has good beaches.

highcliffe, mudeford, hengistbury, all within about 2hrs of south london.

grew up there as a boy & its still fairly quiet, if you like seafood then mudeford quay is for you smile

take the lyndhurst turning off the M27 & its a lovely drive through the forest to, you could actually do a beach crawl from there starting with Highcliffe.

Aldeburgh/Thorpeness, Suffolk coast, Aldeburgh is how the British seaside should be - and a bit of a foodie destination.

1.5 ~ 2hrs from London by car.

No personal link, just used them many times to escape my life of toil in that there London.

A lovely walk along the beach from Thorpeness to Aldeburgh.

Sticks.

Unfrtunately booked this weekend but one to bookmark is this (my) place in Rye http://www.freedomholidayhomes.co.uk/cottage-detai... , http://www.facebook.com/CrownCottage/photos#!/Crow...

min 3 days

You can easily get to walking-beaches at Winchelsea, Camber, St Mary's Bay, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve or Hastings Country Park.

And for eating you're only 2 mins from The George http://www.thegeorgeinrye.com/foodanddrink/index.h... the new Ambrette http://theambrette.co.uk/home/rye_default.aspx or Webbe's http://www.webbesrestaurants.co.uk/the-fish-cafe/. Plenty of places a bit cheaper if you want too.
